In Kyiv, roughly a thousand participants joined the annual Run for Freedom, an advocacy race calling for the release of Ukrainian prisoners, with professor and UNITED24 ambassador Timothy Snyder taking part,

The Gaze reports on it, referring to the KSE Foundation on Facebook.

On September 13, the annual Run for Freedom advocacy race took place in Kyiv, bringing together Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine for the second time to address the issue of thousands of military personnel and civilians remaining in Russian captivity.

About 1,000 participants took part in the race, including KSE students and alumni, military personnel, veterans, families of prisoners and missing persons, as well as hundreds of concerned Ukrainians.

The event was initiated by students of the Kyiv School of Economics together with historian, professor, and UNITED24 ambassador Timothy Snyder, who ran the longest distance—10 km—in support of the call for the release of prisoners.

"There is no freedom without solidarity. Thank you for your presence, for your solidarity with others, for what you are doing today, tomorrow, and in general. Have a good run!" Professor Timothy Snyder addressed the participants.

The event was organized by the KSE Foundation, DefDev, the national network of rehabilitation centers RECOVERY, and the Azovstal Heart project, in partnership with NewRun.

Run for Freedom aims to draw the world's attention to the issue of Ukrainian prisoners and emphasize that the release of people is a matter of human rights and international justice.

“Run for Freedom is our way of telling the world that the release of prisoners is not just a Ukrainian issue, but a matter of human rights and international justice. Thanks to the involvement of Professor Timothy Snyder, we can say this louder,” said Anastasia Tyshchenko, deputy director of the KSE Foundation.

The funds raised from participation in the race will be directed by the KSE Foundation to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces—this year, the needs of two military units will be covered for a total amount of approximately 700,000 UAH.

As The Gaze reported earlier, American historian and writer Timothy Snyder has been named the 2025 laureate of the Vasyl Stus Prize, one of Ukraine’s most respected cultural honors recognizing artistic achievement and moral courage.
