Trump Officially Elected as Republican Presidential Candidate
Donald Trump received enough votes to become the Republican presidential candidate.
This is reported by The Gardian.
The former US president was confirmed as the official candidate of the Republican Party at the national convention in Milwaukee.
Trump had been the expected nominee for several months, but it was the vote of the convention delegates that gave him the status of the official candidate.
During the roll call vote, the votes of the Florida delegation put Trump in first place. The results from Florida were announced by Trump's son Eric.
This comes after Trump survived an assassination attempt on Saturday when an armed man shot at him during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Trump suffered an ear wound but opened the four-day convention of the party that chose him as its presidential nominee anyway.
Trump is to formally accept the party's nomination in his prime-time address on Thursday.
Trump also chose Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential candidate. The former president explained that he decided to choose Vance as his vice presidential candidate after "much deliberation". Among his merits, he named his service in the US Marine Corps, work in the financial and IT sectors, and his law degree. "As vice president, JD Vance will continue to fight for the Constitution, support our military, and do everything he can to restore America to greatness," Trump said.
The Republican convention opened a few hours after Donald Trump scored a major victory when a federal judge dismissed one of the criminal cases against Trump.
As The Gaze previously reported, on Monday, Florida District Court ruled to dismiss a federal case against Donald Trump for improperly storing classified documents. This is one of four criminal proceedings against the former president.
On Saturday night, Trump was wounded during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A sniper shot him in the ear.
