Trump Slams Putin’s Missile Boasts, Urges Him to End the Russian-Ukrainian War
U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed reports of Russia’s recent test of its nuclear-powered cruise missile “Burevestnik,” accusing Vladimir Putin of focusing on military showmanship instead of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Gaze reports this, referring to CNN.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the United States possesses a formidable nuclear arsenal of its own, including submarines deployed close to Russian shores.
“They know we have a nuclear submarine, the greatest in the world, right off their shore,” Trump said, according to CNN. “So I mean, it doesn’t have to go 8,000 miles, and they’re not playing games with us, we’re not playing games with them either. We test missiles all the time.”
However, the president also expressed surprise that Putin was boasting about weapons tests amid Russia’s prolonged war against Ukraine.
“And I don’t think it’s an appropriate thing for Putin to be saying either, by the way. He ought to get the war ended, a war that should have taken one week is now in its fourth year, that’s what he ought to do instead of testing missiles,” Trump added.
When asked whether Washington was preparing further sanctions against Russia, the U.S. president replied briefly: “You’ll find out.”
As The Gaze reported earlier, Putin claimed Russia had successfully tested the “Burevestnik,” a nuclear-powered cruise missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and flying for extended periods.
During a visit to a Russian military command center on Sunday, Putin received a briefing on the “successful” test, reviving a project that has been in development for more than two decades.
Work on the Burevestnik began in 2001 at the Novator Design Bureau but was publicly unveiled only in 2018. The missile has been described by Russian officials as having “unlimited range,” though Western experts have long doubted its practicality and safety.
