UK Commits £55 Million to Ukraine for Energy, Business, and Social Support
On 5 February, the United Kingdom announced the allocation of £55 million (about $68.7 million) to Ukraine for energy, business and social support. This was reported by the British Foreign Office.
This amount includes:
- 17 million pounds (about $21.2 million) for innovative energy projects to support the restoration and sustainable development of Ukraine's energy system;
- £10 million (approximately $12.4 million) to help restore, rebuild and reform the Ukrainian economy for the future;
- 25 million pounds (approximately $31.2 million) to support Ukraine in strengthening more inclusive, effective and efficient social systems and services;
- 3 million pounds (about $3.7 million) to supply Ukrainian grain and other food products to Syria.
On 5 February, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in Kyiv. During his visit, he announced this support.
‘Today I am announcing additional UK support for Ukraine of £55 million to help boost resilience and growth in both our countries and economies,’ the British Foreign Secretary said.
As previously reported by The Gaze, on 16 January, Ukraine and the UK signed a historic partnership agreement for 100 years to come.
The UK also promised to provide Ukraine with 15 new Gravehawk mobile air defence systems by 2025.
