UK Intelligence: Russia Has Suffered Over 230,000 Casualties in 2025 Alone

Russia has likely suffered more than 236,000 military casualties, killed and wounded, in its war against Ukraine since the beginning of 2025.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the latest assessment by British military intelligence on social media platform X.
This brings the total number of Russian personnel losses since February 2022 to well over one million, marking an unprecedented toll in modern European warfare.
The analysis, released on July 11, draws on both UK intelligence findings and data from Ukraine’s General Staff.
It notes that Russia’s average daily casualties in June 2025 reached approximately 1,080, amounting to nearly 32,000 losses over the month.
While the overall casualty rate remains high, British officials observed a modest monthly decline in losses since March, with June recording the lowest daily average since April 2024.
Analysts suggest this seasonal dip is consistent with previous years, when improved summer weather likely enhanced battlefield evacuation and survival rates for wounded troops.
Despite the slight decrease, the figures point to the sustained intensity of combat operations and the Kremlin’s continued willingness to absorb massive personnel losses in pursuit of its objectives in Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier, previous assessments by British intelligence in June already indicated that Russia’s total military losses since the start of the full-scale invasion had crossed the one-million mark, a milestone that has drawn sharp criticism from Western leaders.
Then, on June 12, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy responded to the figures by condemning the Kremlin’s tactics, saying that President Vladimir Putin is sacrificing Russian lives on an industrial scale, treating his own soldiers as expendable “cannon fodder.”
