Ukraine to Host Largest Media Conference in Eastern and Central Europe [LMF] in a Bomb Shelter

The largest media conference in Eastern and Central Europe, the Lviv Media Forum (LMF), will be held in one of Lviv's bomb shelters, the Forum's press service reports. 

This will be the tenth anniversary of the international media forum in Lviv. It will be held from 16 to 18 May 2024. The focus theme of the anniversary event is: "Language for Understanding: Searching for Meaning in a Polarised World".

Since 2013, LMF has been the largest European conference about media and for media professionals. Last year, the organisers changed the format and focused on issues that are critical to international support for Ukraine in the wake of Russia's great war.

The civilised world is becoming dangerously polarised and plunging into internal strife at a time when it needs solidarity and united efforts the most. The balance of the post-war world order has been upset: in regions where states have not fought each other for half a century, precedents and threats of war of aggression are emerging again. 

In addition, in 2024, elections will be held in more than 80 countries, which will inevitably lead to increased conflict and division in society. More and more often, radical populists are winning elections in democratic countries, ready to abandon the fruits of decades of integration processes.

"We believe that mutual understanding is possible because we are talking about the same thing, just in different words," the Forum organisers said in a statement.

The Lviv Media Forum will offer all guests of the X LMF conference to make a donation to the development of a permanent programme of psychological support for the media. 

"We are not selling tickets to this year's conference - the entrance will be free," say the organisers, "but we encourage the guests of X LMF to contribute to our work so that we can continue to help Ukrainian journalists and media".
