Ukrainian Defence Forces Sink Russian Submarine and Destroy Russian Missile System in Occupied Crimea
The Ukrainian army has struck at the Russian submarine Rostov-on-Don and the enemy's S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
This was reported by the official website of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Rostov-on-Don was one of four submarines in the Black Sea and a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles that fired at Ukrainian cities and civilians.
The attack on 4 August was carried out by Ukrainian missile units in cooperation with the Navy.
The strikes severely damaged four Triumph missile launchers and successfully hit the Russian Black Sea Fleet submarine Rostov-on-Don in the port of Sevastopol. The boat sank on the spot.
The B-237 submarine Rostov-on-Don (Kilo class in NATO classification) is one of four submarines of this class capable of using Kalibr missiles.
The Rostov-on-Don submarine was built on 26 December 2014.
On 13 September 2023, the vessel sustained significant damage as a result of a Ukrainian missile attack. It was subsequently repaired and began testing in the waters of Sevastopol Harbour.
The cost of the submarine is estimated at $300 million.
