Two representatives of Ukraine won gold in the individual épée competition at the European Junior Fencing Championships in Naples, Italy.
Anna Maksymenko defeated her teammate Emily Conrad with a score of 15:11 to win her third gold medal in Naples.
Earlier, the 16-year-old from Lviv made a champion's double in the cadet category, winning both the individual and team championships, where she fenced with her rival in the final, Conrad.
For both Maksymenko and Conrad, who is the current European U-23 champion, these are the first awards in their careers at the continental junior championships.
Last year, they also stood on the podium together in the cadet category: - Conrad took the first place and Maksimenko the third.
As The Gaze previously reported, Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Harlan won gold at the World Cup in Peru. The decisive duel between 33-year-old Olga Harlan and Hungarian sabre fencer Sugar Katinka Battai was a repeat of last year's World Cup final in Athens, but unlike in March 2023, it ended in a confident victory for the Ukrainian representative.
