Ukrainian FM Signs UN Declaration On Protection Of Humanitarian Workers

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has signed a declaration on safeguarding humanitarian personnel during his visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York, where delegations from around the globe are gathering for the 80th session of the General Assembly.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Sybiha’s post on social media.
The Ukrainian FM said he also paid tribute to aid workers who lost their lives while carrying out humanitarian missions.
“At the UN headquarters, I participated in the signing of the Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel and paid tribute to fallen aid workers. We are grateful to those who devoted their lives to selflessly saving the lives of others, even at the cost of their own safety,” he wrote on X.
The minister stressed that this year’s high-level segment of the General Assembly comes at a decisive moment for Ukraine, Europe, and the wider international community.
“Since 2022, Russia’s targeted attacks have claimed more than 100 lives of humanitarian workers in Ukraine, both our heroic rescuers and members of international humanitarian groups,” he said, describing the session as an opportunity for serious decisions to uphold peace and security, defend the principles of the UN Charter, and ensure justice for violators of international law.
Alongside President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s engagements, Sybiha’s program in New York includes hosting a discussion on Ukraine’s energy resilience and green recovery, addressing a ministerial meeting of the G20, joining Security Council debates, and taking part in the Group of Friends initiative aimed at holding Russia accountable for its aggression.
Ukrainian officials also plan a wide array of bilateral and multilateral talks with counterparts from Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will embark on one of his busiest diplomatic weeks, with nearly 20 meetings scheduled with world leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
