Ukrainian President Attends 'Ukraine – South-East Europe' Summit in Albania
While on a working visit to Albania, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will take part in the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit and sign a number of bilateral cooperation agreements. The main topics are support for the Ukrainian Peace Formula and work on security agreements.
The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Albania discussed Ukraine's urgent defence needs and further cooperation in this area, including joint arms production.
Zelensky thanked the government and people of Albania for their strong support for Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor. He noted the defence assistance provided by Albania to Ukraine and thanked the Albanian government for the decision to allocate a new tranche of military support, including equipment and ammunition.
Zelensky noted the active work of the Republic of Albania in implementing the Ukrainian peace formula and the readiness of Edi Rama to take part in the upcoming Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the work on a bilateral security agreement within the framework of the Group of Seven Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine, which was joined by Albania.
Ukraine and Albania have now signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. The document will help develop cooperation with Albania and strengthen Ukraine's position in the Balkan region.
According to the agreement, Ukraine and Albania will develop mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economy, science and technology, culture, education, healthcare, media, tourism and sports.
Ukraine and Albania will also cooperate in the fight against organised crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and smuggling of all kinds, including cultural and historical property.
