Ukrainian President Holds First Ukraine-US Economic Recovery Meeting
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s President, led the initial meeting of the Ukrainian-American working group on rebuilding the economy.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to a post made by Zelenskyy on Telegram.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with his team, held the first meeting of the working group with US representatives to discuss plans for Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic recovery. The meeting included Scott Bessent, Jared Kushner, and Larry Fink.
During the discussion, the parties addressed key areas of recovery, possible mechanisms, and the vision for Ukraine’s future economy. Zelenskyy noted that a Ukrainian version of the 20 basic points of a fundamental document for ending the war has already been prepared.
“Overall security will determine economic security and shape a protected business climate,” the President emphasized.
The parties also agreed on further contacts between the teams and assured readiness to work without delays. Zelenskyy thanked former President Donald Trump and his team for their substantial work and support.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that three documents are being developed as part of the negotiation process between Ukraine, Europe, and the United States that will form the basis for a peace settlement.
The first document is a "framework document with 20 points," which Zelenskyy described as a flexible and evolving structure designed to reflect the interests of Ukraine, Europe, and the wider world.
The second document focuses on security guarantees, incorporating proposals from Ukrainian military officials and discussions with US counterparts, aligned with the principles of the Coalition of the Willing.
The third document concerns Ukraine’s reconstruction and post-war economic development, intended to guide recovery once hostilities end or a ceasefire is achieved.
“Some say that this is Ukraine's economic development... Of course, this is a project that should work after the war ends or there is a ceasefire. We are also working on this document,” he said.
The developments come amid ongoing negotiations between Ukraine, European partners, and the United States to create a unified peace plan for ending the war. On December 8, Zelenskyy met in London with the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany, and also held an online discussion with a broader group of the Coalition of the Willing.
Ukranian President also announced that the Ukrainian and European components of the plan are largely finalized and ready to be presented to US partners. He emphasized the teams’ active work on all elements needed to end the war and expressed hope that, together with the United States, practical steps could be implemented as quickly as possible.
Following the London meetings, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on December 10 to discuss advancing peace efforts in Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier, according to Finnish President Alexander Stubb, peace is closer for Ukraine now than at any time since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in early 2022.
