Ukrainian President Urges EU Leaders to Join Global Peace Summit Preparation
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the heads of state and government of the European Union to join the preparation of the Global Peace Summit.
He said this in a video address to the participants of a special EU summit in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"During my visit to Switzerland in January this year, we reached an agreement to hold the Global Peace Summit. Work on its organisation has already begun. And I invite all of you to take an active part in the preparation of the summit. Europe must have its say, and the word of Europe must be invariably weighty, reliable and implemented in concrete decisions," the Head of State said.
According to him, Europe today sends a signal across the Atlantic and around the world "that the international world order based on rules will withstand all challenges".
"Europe sets the tone in global processes with its unity. It is a fact now. And it should remain so... And I believe in Europe. I believe that European unity will preserve normal life on our continent, and I am as confident in this as all of you," Zelenskyy said.
As reported, at a meeting of the European Council, all 27 EU leaders reached a consensus decision to include a €50 billion Ukraine Fund in the EU's 2024-2027 multiannual budget.
In January, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the Swiss Confederation Viola Amgerd agreed to start preparations for the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland at the level of heads of state after the presentation of Ukraine's "Peace Formula" in Davos.
