Ukrainians Win Three Golds in Combat Sambo at World Games

The Ukrainian national team added to its medal haul at the 12th World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, with three gold medals in combat sambo.

Ukrainian Andriy Kucherenko in the weight category up to 71 kg in combat sambo defeated ‘neutral’ Rolan Zinnatov - 6:1.
Andriy celebrated his success immediately on the mat with a victorious hopak dance.
The second gold medal was won at the 2025 World Games by Vladislav Rudnev in the weight category up to 79 kg.
"Second gold and second Ukrainian hopak in the combat sambo final at the 2025 World Games! Vladislav Rudnev became the champion of the Games in the weight category up to 79 kg. In the final, the Ukrainian defeated the representative of the aggressor country, competing under a ‘neutral’ flag, Hovhannes Abgaryan, with a score of 3:0," according to a post by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Ukrainian sambo wrestler Petro Davydenko won the third gold medal in the final of the 88 kg weight category.
"Three finals — three victories! A fantastic performance by Ukrainian sambo wrestlers at the World Games in Chengdu,‘ the Ministry of Youth and Sports reported. ’Petro Davydenko also won gold, defeating the “neutral” representative of the aggressor country, Abusupyan Alikhanov, 4:1 in the final of the 88 kg weight category."
Ukraine rose to third place in the medal standings at the Chengdu Games with 26 awards (11 gold, 9 silver, 6 bronze).
