UMAC 2025: Over $80 Million Pledged for Humanitarian Demining in Ukraine
At the UMAC 2025 conference in Japan, partner countries announced more than $80 million in funding for humanitarian demining in Ukraine and signed a series of memoranda on international cooperation in mine action.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The conference was attended by representatives of 57 countries, including the foreign ministers of Japan, Croatia, Lithuania, and Sweden, as well as heads of EU, UN, and other international organizations. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev.
Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and Sweden announced financial support. Japan presented a comprehensive assistance package for Ukraine's long-term recovery, including the development of human potential, technical capabilities, and resources, while the Czech Republic confirmed funding for new demining projects.
Key memoranda were signed during the conference: Ukraine and Slovenia on coordination of demining and recovery; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on strategic partnership in mine action; Azerbaijan (ANAMA) and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on training Ukrainian deminers and exchanging practical approaches.
In addition, 45 countries and international organizations signed a document confirming their joint commitment to accelerating humanitarian demining.
Participants emphasized that demining paves the way for people to return home safely, restores agriculture, forestry, energy, and infrastructure, and creates opportunities for sustainable economic development and investment.
"Demining is one of the first components of Ukraine's recovery, paving the way for the sustainable development of such important sectors of the economy as agriculture, forestry, energy, and infrastructure. Together with international partners, in particular the Government of Japan, we are attracting finance to the sector, integrating technology and localising production to make it sustainable and attractive to investors," said Oleksii Sobolev.
As The Gaze informed earlier, in 2026, Ukraine will receive more than €165 million from the Demining Capabilities Coalition to strengthen its capabilities in the field of combat and humanitarian demining and to modernize its equipment.
