Ukraine and Azerbaijan Strengthen Energy Cooperation Amid Russian Attacks

Ukraine and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their strong energy partnership and condemned recent Russian attacks on Azerbaijani-linked infrastructure amid ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to Reuters and a post by the President of Ukraine on Telegram.
In a conversation on August 10, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, congratulated the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the entire Azerbaijani people on the agreements reached with Armenia for lasting peace in the South Caucasus region.
During the meeting, the presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan emphasized the successful development of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
“We also discussed our energy cooperation with Azerbaijan. Significant progress has been made. We agreed that we will not stop there and will continue to work on expanding our capabilities.” Zelenskyy wrote.
The President of Ukraine also reported on Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, aimed at blocking energy routes, ensuring the independence of Ukraine and other European countries.
The President of Azerbaijan, in turn, condemned Russia's air strikes on Azerbaijani oil and gas facilities in Ukraine.
"During the conversation, both sides condemned the deliberate airstrikes by Russia on an oil storage facility owned by Azerbaijan's SOCAR in Ukraine, as well as other Azerbaijani facilities and a gas compressor station transporting Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine," Aliyev's press service said in a statement.
It is worth recalling that on the night of August 8, 2025, Russian troops attacked the oil depot of the Azerbaijani company SOCAR in the Odessa region, causing a fire and injuring workers. This is the second attack in recent weeks on energy facilities linked to Azerbaijan, including a gas distribution station that supplies Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine.
Nevertheless, the press service of the President of Azerbaijan notes that these attacks will not hinder energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
Moreover, it is reported that if Russia continues its aggressive policy against Azerbaijan's interests, Baku will begin to consider lifting the embargo on arms supplies from its arsenal to Ukraine.
As The Gaze informed earlier, Ukraine has launched its first-ever imports of Azerbaijani natural gas, signaling a new stage in the country’s strategy to diversify energy supplies.
