Azerbaijan Rebukes Russia as Missile Strike Hits Kyiv Embassy
Azerbaijan has summoned Russia’s ambassador in Baku and delivered a formal note of protest after a Russian missile strike in Kyiv severely damaged the country’s diplomatic compound.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Report.az
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said Ambassador Mikhail Yevdokimov was called in early Friday after an Iskander ballistic missile landed on the premises of Azerbaijan’s embassy in the Ukrainian capital at around 01:00 on 14 November.
The blast destroyed part of the perimeter fence, damaged the administrative building and consular section, and left several official vehicles wrecked. No casualties were reported among embassy staff.
Baku condemned the strike as a blatant violation of international law, reminding the Russian diplomat that this was not the first time Azerbaijani diplomatic missions in Ukraine had come under fire.
The ministry recalled that on 10 March 2022, an airstrike in Kharkiv destroyed the building of the honorary consulate and rendered its service vehicle unusable.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the incident in a call with President Ilham Aliyev, thanking Azerbaijan for its support in the aftermath of one of Russia’s most intense combined drone-and-missile assaults in months.
According to Zelenskyy, hundreds of drones and multiple types of missiles, including ballistic weapons, were launched at Ukrainian cities overnight.
Aliyev, for his part, condemned the attack on the embassy and noted that Russia had previously targeted buildings linked to Azerbaijan.
He has demanded that Russia ensure the safety of its diplomatic missions and prevent further violations.
Kyiv was the main target of the strike, where the death toll has risen to six, with at least 35 injured, including children and a pregnant woman.
Damage was also reported in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions, while Ukrainian officials said Russia likely used a Tsirkon hypersonic missile in Sumy region early in the morning.
As The Gaze reported earlier, on September 28, Russia’s largest overnight assault on Ukraine in months damaged the diplomatic missions of both the European Union and Poland in Kyiv.
