US Envoy Kellogg Heads to Poland and Ukraine Amid NATO’s Response to Russian Drone Incursion

U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, retired General Keith Kellogg, is on a diplomatic mission to Poland this week and is expected to travel to Ukraine shortly afterward.
The Gaze reports this, referring to CNN, citing officials in the White House.
One official confirmed that Kellogg was already en route to Poland when Russian drones crossed into Polish airspace overnight on September 10.
The incursion triggered NATO’s first direct combat engagement with Russian military targets since the start of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Fighter jets from Poland and allied forces were scrambled, intercepting and destroying multiple UAVs.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said 19 drones violated Poland’s airspace, calling the assault a “massive provocation” by Moscow.
The Ministry of Defense later confirmed that wreckage from several downed drones was secured in restricted areas by military engineers. No casualties were reported, though local authorities documented property damage in eastern regions of the country.
The attack prompted Warsaw to invoke Article 4 of the NATO Charter, requesting urgent consultations among alliance members. NATO officials stressed that the incident underscores the need for heightened vigilance along the alliance’s eastern flank, adding that forces remain on full alert.
The timing of Kellogg’s visit places Washington at the center of the diplomatic response to one of the most serious escalations of the war to date.
According to sources cited by CNN, Kellogg is expected to arrive in Ukraine within days, continuing his role as Donald Trump’s special envoy for negotiations with Kyiv.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense has denied responsibility for the airspace violation, claiming its drones lack the range to reach Poland.
However, preliminary technical analysis of debris recovered inside Polish territory suggests the use of long-range modifications, contradicting Moscow’s assertions.
As The Gaze reported earlier, on August 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Kyiv with Keith Kellogg, the U.S. President’s special representative, to discuss further measures to pressure Russia and to advance humanitarian efforts, particularly the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported by Moscow.
