US, Europe Increasingly Diverge on Ukraine Peace Prospects, Expert Believes

Unity between the US and Europe is the best solution for achieving peace in Ukraine. However, Kyiv's allies are increasingly divided in their views on how to respond to global challenges and end Russia's war against Ukraine, according to Oleh Pendzin, executive director of the Economic Discussion Club.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to FREEDOM TV channel broadcast.
"Recently, there has been a significant divergence in the positions of European countries, in particular the leadership of the European Union and the United States of America. Moreover, the further we go, the more these positions diverge. They diverge in terms of the architecture of European security. They diverge in terms of assessments of the processes taking place in Ukraine. They diverge in terms of trade relations between the US and the EU,” he said.
The US believes that Europe should play a leading role in providing military assistance to Ukraine.
“The United States is losing its leadership in the world, and this is evident not only in its position on European security. It is also evident in terms of the reduction of US funding for humanitarian programs in Latin America and Africa, as well as significant scientific research in medicine. Due to the closure of the Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States has lost its global influence and leadership position. Today, there is a significant review of relations between Europe and the US,” the speaker said.
US President Donald Trump has postponed the introduction of 50% tariffs on imports from the European Union until July 9.
“The US will actively promote its goods on the European market. These include energy resources, such as liquefied gas. The EU is preparing to replace Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies with American ones. In other words, they are making concessions. We will see how ready the Trump administration is for business talks on economic relations between Europe and the United States,” Pendzin said.
Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz accused Russia of serious war crimes for its recent massive attacks on Ukrainian cities.
