US Missile Defence Base to Open in Poland – Part of NATO Shield Capable of Intercepting Russian Missiles

In the coming weeks, a US missile defence base will be opened in Redzików, Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. This was announced by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, PAP reports.
‘In the coming weeks, we will open a missile defence base in Redzików near the city of Puck. This is the base we agreed on with the United States,’ Sikorski said.
He also said that he had been negotiating ‘so that the missiles could shoot down Russian missiles flying at Poland, not just Iranian missiles flying at the United States’.
‘Our opponents have accused us of destroying the base project, but it already exists and will soon be officially opened,’ the Foreign Minister said.
Following the July NATO summit in Washington, DC, it was announced that the Redzikovo missile defence base was operationally ready. This base is part of the US European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA), which is the US contribution to NATO's integrated air and missile defence system.
Also during the July summit, then-NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the Redzikovo base, which is part of NATO's missile shield, was ready to begin its mission.
