In the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, the winners of the competition, media representatives, were awarded for their best works at the War in the Lens documentary film festival. This is the first time in the history of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that the military have recognised the authors of the best works about national resistance and defence.
Journalists from all over Ukraine submitted 385 works to the competition. These included television stories, newspaper articles, photo reports and radio podcasts.
The award ceremony was hosted by journalist Iryna Baglay and film director Akhtem Seitablaev, a serviceman of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Special Forces.
The winners of the competition were awarded on the stage of the Ukrainian House by well-known cultural figures, journalists and military personnel.
During the award ceremony, the audience observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen media workers.
The shortlist of finalists was formed by the War in the Lens organisers, and the winners were chosen by a jury of 17 military personnel who had been professional journalists before the Great War. Some of them had to evaluate the contestants' work at the front, under enemy fire.
