In the Romanian city of Alexeni, located 66 km east of Bucharest, plans are underway to construct a new international airport covering an area of 198 hectares at a cost of 400 million euros. To accomplish this, a consortium has been formed involving the Romanian airport services operator Avant Airports, the developer of the project, and the Ukrainian construction company "Avtohigiena-Pivden." This information is reported by Romania Insider.
The concept for the future airport includes a passenger terminal spanning 30,000 square meters capable of serving 6.5 million passengers annually, as well as a cargo terminal of 20,000 square meters for handling over 10,000 tons of cargo per year.
Avant Airports has assured that they have engaged "a team of top civil aviation experts from more than 15 countries" for the project development. According to estimates provided by consortium representatives during the signing of the concession agreement on March 18, the airport is expected to be completed within four years.
The company "Avtohigiena-Pivden" in Ukraine has participated in the reconstruction of airports in Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Odesa. Additionally, they have experience working in the Romanian market, where they are completing the reconstruction of the runway at Satu Mare Airport.
"Our participation in arguably Romania's most significant and ambitious infrastructure project is now possible. Winning the tender is a testament to the trust placed in our company by Romanian partners. If we can attract investment and execute the project, it will help us access the EU market," stated Mykola Tymofeev, CEO of Avtohigiena-Pivden.
The Gaze also reported that the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall plans to build a modern ammunition plant in Romania, catering to the needs of European armies.
The plant will be constructed on a 300-hectare plot in the Fegeras-Victoria area. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the European Commission and has a value of 400 million euros, of which 47 million euros are provided by the European Commission. It is reported that Rheinmetall representatives have already arrived in the country to commence the construction of the plant.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Cholaku also noted that Romania does not produce enough ammunition to NATO standards, making such production extremely important for the country.
