Bosnian Driver Caught Attempting to Smuggle Record 87 Migrants into Croatia
Police in the Karlovac County of Croatia have conducted investigations into six separate cases involving 11 individuals suspected of illegally transporting 117 migrants into Croatia. This was reported by the Karlovac Police Department.
The report comes from HRT.
A Bosnian and Herzegovinian driver has taken the dubious honor of transporting the largest number of migrants in a single vehicle. During a border inspection on Wednesday evening, law enforcement officers discovered a staggering 87 illegal migrants crammed inside a cargo truck with a trailer bearing Bosnian and Herzegovinian license plates. The 57-year-old Bosnian driver was taken into custody and is facing criminal charges.
Karlovac Police Department stated that five migrants expressed their intention to seek international protection, while the entry of others into Croatia was denied.
In another incident, officers from the Police Department in Slunj stopped and inspected a Bulgarian-registered vehicle driven by a 60-year-old Bulgarian citizen. The search revealed six foreigners on board. Investigations revealed that these individuals had unlawfully crossed the Croatian border two nights prior under the cover of darkness. The Bulgarian driver, aged 56, had assisted them, leading the way in a specially equipped vehicle to evade Croatian police surveillance.
On the same evening, border police from Cetingrad, in collaboration with colleagues from the relevant department, stopped two vehicles registered in Romania. One vehicle was driven by a 38-year-old Romanian citizen, carrying eight foreigners who had illegally crossed the Croatian border. The second car, driven by a 33-year-old Romanian, contained two more Romanians aged 32 and 24.
As previously reported by The Gaze, the Polish government has accused Belarus and Russia of orchestrating a new wave of migration across the Polish border into the European Union, allegedly with the intention of destabilizing the region. The Head of Poland's Border Guard has requested an additional deployment of 1000 military personnel at the Polish-Belarusian border.
Earlier, the European Union (EU) unveiled a plan to prevent the influx of migrants into Europe. Brussels signed an agreement with Tunisia, a common point of departure for asylum seekers en route to Europe. The EU offered the country millions of euros in exchange for assistance in intercepting boats that transport increasing numbers of people to Europe.
