The leaders of the ‘coalition of the willing’ will be ready to deploy multinational security forces in Ukraine after the cessation of hostilities.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to a joint statement by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who co-chaired a virtual meeting of the coalition leaders on Sunday, 17 August.

According to the statement, the leaders met on 17 August to discuss support for Ukraine and the next steps in peace talks following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

The leaders of the countries ‘once again emphasised their readiness to deploy security forces after the cessation of hostilities, as well as to help secure Ukraine's air and sea space and rebuild the Ukrainian Armed Forces.’

‘The leaders confirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine and highly appreciated President Zelensky's commitment to a just and lasting peace, which he is preparing during further consultations with President Trump in Washington,’ the statement said.

They also highly appreciated Trump's commitment to providing security guarantees to Ukraine.

On 17 August, Zelenskyy said that members of the ‘coalition of the willing’ had coordinated their positions ahead of his visit to Washington to meet with Trump.

And Macron, after participating in the meeting of the ‘coalition of the willing,’ said that Russia does not seek peace, but rather wants Ukraine to capitulate.

On 18 August, Zelenskyy arrived in Washington to meet with Trump after the latter held a summit with Putin. They will meet at around 8:15 p.m. Kyiv time.

Several European leaders are flying to the United States with the Ukrainian leader. However, according to media reports, Zelenskyy will first hold a bilateral meeting with Trump alone. This will be followed by a joint meeting with the Europeans.

The meeting in Washington will be attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

As The Gaze reported earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who jointly chaired Wednesday's online meeting of Coalition leaders, issued a joint statement on the outcome of the meeting.
