Croatia Donates Mi-8 Helicopters to Ukraine as Part of Military Aid

Croatia has handed over its Mi-8 helicopters to Ukraine as part of its military aid efforts. This announcement was made by the US Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, during a meeting with his Croatian counterpart, Mario Banožić, in Washington, according to a Pentagon press release.
"Over the last 30 years, Croatia has made remarkable progress, transitioning from the turmoil of the 1990s war to becoming a fully integrated member of NATO and the European Union. Such progress doesn't happen by chance; it requires persistent effort and a willingness to put differences aside and look towards the future," stated the United States Secretary of Defence.
Austin mentioned that the United States appreciates Croatia's steadfast commitment to aiding Ukraine, seeing it in their "numerous contributions" of military equipment, including Mi-8 helicopters, as well as in their deployment of troops as part of NATO's battle groups in Poland, Lithuania, and Hungary, in addition to their contributions to humanitarian assistance.
"All of this makes a real contribution to Ukraine's fight for freedom. I eagerly await your perspective on the challenges related to Russia's aggressive invasion of its peaceful neighbour, Ukraine," added the head of the Pentagon.
In response, Banožić noted that supporting Ukraine in its resistance against Russian aggression reflects a readiness to set aside differences and focus on the future. He also emphasized the importance of leadership and collective efforts for future generations.
The Croatian minister added that the Croatian government provides financial, technical, and political support to Ukraine. He assured that Croatia will support Ukraine as much as needed. The initial assistance from Croatia arrived on February 28, 2022.
Recall that in March 2023, the Croatian Minister of Defence, Mario Banožić, during an unannounced visit to Ukraine, mentioned that Zagreb was considering providing Ukraine with Mi-8 helicopters and assistance with demining.
Additionally, as reported by The Gaze, a Croatian demining equipment manufacturer announced the localization of production in Ukraine. The company, A3TECH-Ukraine, reached an agreement to produce equipment using the technology of the Croatian company DOK-ING.
