Czechia to Buy Ammunition for Ukraine with Frozen Russian Assets

The Czech Republic will use part of the proceeds from Russian assets frozen in the EU to supply ammunition to Ukraine.

This was reported by Czech Defence Minister Jana Černohova on the X network.

According to her, this is another demonstration of foreign partners' confidence in the effectiveness of the Czech project. 

"Part of the proceeds from the frozen Russian assets in the EU will be used to supply Ukraine with ammunition purchased by the Czech Republic. This is the decision of the European Union.

Thus, we will be able to purchase hundreds of thousands more of the much-needed large-calibre ammunition for Ukraine," Černohova said.

"This is another proof of our allies' confidence in the Czech Republic and our ammunition initiative. This is a unique opportunity to support Ukraine, use resources that originally belonged to Russia and save the public finances of European countries," she added.

The head of the Czech ministry did not specify how much ammunition Ukraine could receive in this way.

The so-called Czech Initiative is capable of providing the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 50,000 to 100,000 large-calibre shells per month. By the end of the year, the total number should reach half a million.

As The Gaze previously reported, in June, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that the Czech Republic would allocate almost CZK 866 million (EUR 34.7 million) as part of its initiative to supply artillery ammunition to Ukraine.
