Denmark Calls for Expanding the F-16 Coalition for Ukraine
During the annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Copenhagen, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced her country's intention to expand the coalition of nations providing military support to Ukraine in the form of Western F-16 fighter jets, as reported by The Guardian.
Frederiksen called on other NATO member countries to join this initiative and provide combat aircraft to Ukraine. She emphasized that as long as Ukrainian forces are willing to fight for their country's freedom, NATO member states must show determination and ensure that the transatlantic community remains committed to the conflict in Ukraine, offering support in resisting military aggression.
"We must stand with Ukraine until the end. None of us can claim to be tired of war as long as Ukraine continues its tireless struggle. Let us make sure there is no fatigue from war in our transatlantic community," said Mette Frederiksen.
Frederiksen also expressed the belief that Russian leader Vladimir Putin miscalculated when hoping that NATO's support for Ukraine would remain mere words. She pointed out that Ukrainian forces are already using weapons provided by Alliance countries, including tanks and missiles, and soon Ukraine will have the capability to deploy F-16 fighter jets in combat.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also addressed the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Copenhagen. In his speech, he noted that both HAMAS and Russia employ similar terrorist tactics. Zelensky proposed that the world should establish clear definitions of terrorism, emphasizing key principles: "Do not commit violence against women. Do not kill. Do not treat children as trophies. Do not bathe villages and cities in blood. Do not shoot civilians in cars."
"It's the same evil, only there it's a terrorist organization that attacked Israel, and here it's a terrorist state that invaded Ukraine," Zelensky stated.
Furthermore, President Zelensky underscored Iran's support for the invasion of Ukraine and the attack on Israel. He emphasized that Iran cannot deny its involvement in Ukraine's conflict when it sells Shahed drones to Russia and supports HAMAS's assault on Israel.
As a reminder, on August 20, 2023, it was announced that Denmark would transfer 19 F-16 aircraft to Ukraine. Danish Minister of Defense Jacob Ellemann-Jensen outlined the condition that Ukraine would be allowed to use these F-16 jets exclusively within its own territory.
