Despite everything, Ukraine continues active preparation for the Global Peace Summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of phone calls with political and spiritual leaders around the world. Among them were Argentine President Javier Milei, newly appointed Prime Minister of Iceland Bjarni Benediktsson, and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The head of the Ukrainian state personally invited them to participate in the Global Peace Summit, which will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland, and informed them about the preparations for this event, as reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
"The organization of the Summit has already been worked out. Our task is to ensure that every leader can demonstrate effectiveness for common interests. I am confident that it will be so. Right now, we must consciously perceive that Russia is trying to disrupt it. The more substantial the Summit is, the closer peace will be," emphasized the President of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy specifically mentioned that he discussed with the Prime Minister of Iceland his potential to use personal contacts in Africa to attract as many Global South countries as possible to participate in the Peace Summit.
In a conversation with the spiritual leader of Eastern Christian rite, Patriarch Bartholomew, the President of Ukraine noted the symbolism of his participation in the Global Peace Summit and thanked him for prayers in support of Ukraine.
In his conversation with Javier Milei, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Argentina for supporting the Ukrainian peace formula and assured that the voice of Latin America in Switzerland is very important.
"Grateful to everyone for the desire to restore the full effectiveness of international law. We will continue to act actively - all continents, all views of countries must be represented at the Peace Summit," summarized Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his video address.
It is worth noting that in his evening address on May 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Russia's attempts to storm the north of the Kharkiv region and assured that he would add strength to defend Kharkiv region.
"The main thing is the Kharkiv region. Today, Russian forces tried to expand their operations against Ukraine. We understand the strength of the occupier's forces, see their intentions. Our soldiers, our artillery, our drones are responding to the occupier. I am grateful to every soldier of ours, every sergeant, every officer who defends our positions as they should," said Zelenskyy.
The Gaze also reported that the United States announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth $400 million. It includes Patriot missiles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Bradley fighting vehicles, MRAPs, Javelin anti-tank missile systems, and other weaponry.
