Patriot, Stinger, Javelin, Bradley Fighting Vehicles: US Announces New $400 Million Aid Package to Ukraine
The United States has announced a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine. It includes Patriot missiles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Bradley fighting vehicles, MRAPs, Javelin ATGMs and other weapons, according to the website of the US Department of Defence.
This is the 57th tranche of equipment from the Biden Administration that will be provided to Ukraine from the Department of Defence's inventory starting in August 2021. This Presidential Decision Authority (PDA) package has an estimated value of $400 million and includes capabilities to support Ukraine's most urgent needs on the battlefield, including air defence, artillery shells, armoured vehicles and anti-tank weapons.
The capabilities of this announcement include:
additional ammunition for the Patriot air defence system;
additional ammunition for the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS);
Stinger anti-aircraft missiles;
Equipment to integrate Western launchers, missiles and radars with Ukrainian systems;
Additional High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and ammunition;
155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells;
Bradley infantry fighting vehicles;
M113 armoured personnel carriers;
Mine-resistant ambush protection vehicles (MRAP);
Trailers for transporting heavy equipment;
Optical tracking and wire guided tube-launched missiles (TOW);
Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
high-precision aerial munitions;
High-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARMs);
Small arms and additional ammunition for small arms and grenades;
Explosive munitions and equipment for obstacle clearance;
Coastal and river patrol boats;
Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear defence equipment; and
Spare parts, training ammunition, maintenance, and other support equipment.
The United States will continue to work with approximately 50 Allies and partners to ensure that Ukraine's brave defenders have the critical capabilities they need to fight Russian military aggression.
