Dutch Defense Minister Discusses Further Support and Security of Grain Corridor with Ukrainian President
Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren, in her visit to Kyiv, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the reinforcement of assistance to Ukraine and the security of the grain corridor. This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Kajsa Ollongren for her significant attention to Ukraine and her repeated visits to the country since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. He also thanked the Netherlands for their strong support of Ukraine. President Zelensky updated Kajsa Ollongren on the situation on the battlefield.
"The Netherlands has been with us since the first days of the Russian aggression. We highly appreciate having such powerful partners and true friends. We are grateful to the Netherlands for important decisions in support of Ukraine made during crucial times. These decisions served as a signal to other partners, as was the case with the Patriot and F-16. This support is significant for our army and our people," said Volodymyr Zelensky.
In addition to the events in Ukraine, high-ranking officials also exchanged thoughts on the developments in the Middle East. At the end of the meeting, Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Kajsa Ollongren the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 3rd class, for her substantial personal contribution to strengthening international cooperation, supporting Ukraine's independence, and territorial integrity.
It's worth noting that the Netherlands is one of the largest European providers of aid to Ukraine. The country regularly supplies weapons, humanitarian assistance, and provides support in demining efforts, among other things. The Netherlands is also a key participant in the F-16 coalition, involved in training Ukrainian pilots, and planning to transfer a portion of their F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with a total of 44 units in the Kingdom.
Furthermore, the Netherlands intends to enhance its support to Ukraine by offering Ukrainian servicemen training in the detection and disposal of sea mines. This includes preparing two crews of Ukrainian sailors and providing specialized vessels for mine clearance. The transfer of the ships will be completed after the Dutch Marine Corps has sufficient reserve capacity. Training for Ukrainian personnel is planned to begin this month.
