Estonia Commits €1.2 Billion Military Aid to Ukraine by 2027
Estonian President Alar Karis has announced that his country will provide Ukraine with a €1.2 billion military aid package. This long-term support plan from Estonia to Ukraine extends until 2027, as revealed by Alar Karis during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. President Karis also emphasized the necessity of supplying adequate weaponry to Ukraine.
"Ukraine requires more and better weaponry. The EU's military industrial capabilities need to be increased so that Ukraine receives what it needs not tomorrow but today. There should be no restrictions on supplying arms to Ukraine," stated Karis.
Alar Karis further highlighted Estonia's specific plans for Ukraine's recovery, suggesting the fair utilization of frozen Russian funds.
"Russia wants to conquer not only Ukraine but has thrown a challenge to the entire democratic world," concluded Karis.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Estonia on Thursday, January 11, accompanied by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
"It is a great honour to welcome good friends and allies – Volodymyr Zelensky and Dmytro Kuleba – to Tallinn. We are sending a strong signal and assurance to Ukraine that Estonia firmly stands by their side, and together we will prevail in this war," stated Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
The day before, Zelensky visited Vilnius. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced plans to provide Ukraine with additional military assistance, including ammunition, generators, and M577 armoured vehicles.
Gitanas Nauseda also noted that Lithuania recently approved a long-term military aid package of €200 million for Ukraine during a National Security Council meeting.
"In January, we will send ammunition, generators, detonation systems to Ukraine, and in February – M577 armoured personnel carriers. We will train Ukrainian soldiers and strengthen cooperation in the defence industry. The agreements signed today between Ukrainian and Lithuanian defence industries are yet another example of our close military cooperation," declared Gitanas Nauseda.
The Lithuanian President mentioned that Lithuania is also forming a "demining coalition" to coordinate with other allies in supporting Ukraine on this issue.
