Polish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski has strongly defended Warsaw’s decision to fund Starlink satellite internet services for Ukraine, describing it as “one of the best investments we have made to support Ukraine and strengthen Poland’s influence.”

The Gaze reports this, referring to Polskie Radio.

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, the first chaired by President Karol Nawrocki, Sikorski said he was “shocked” that anyone would try to obstruct such an effective program.

His remarks were widely seen as a response to Nawrocki’s recent veto of legislation that would have extended benefits for Ukrainian refugees.

“It is in Poland’s strategic interest to influence both Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and the outcome of this war,” Sikorski told reporters.

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz echoed his concerns, stressing that the veto was not about social spending programs such as the child allowance “800+,” but rather about national security.

“Every day the Ukrainian army wears down Russia’s forces, reducing the danger for us. The farther Russian troops are from Poland’s border, the safer we are,” he said.

Nawrocki’s veto blocked the automatic extension of legal residency for Ukrainians after September 30, raising fears of disruptions for hundreds of thousands of workers.

Employers have warned of potential labor shortages, while ministers cautioned that the decision could even jeopardize Ukraine’s access to Starlink, which Poland helps provide.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has criticized the move, but his government lacks the two-thirds majority in parliament required to overturn the presidential veto.

As The Gaze reported earlier, the office of Polish President Karol Navrotsky dismissed claims that his recent veto of an aid bill for Ukrainian refugees would cut off Starlink satellite internet services in Ukraine.
