Zelenskyy Highlights New Chapter in Ukraine-Poland Relations in Warsaw
Zelenskyy emphasized the prospect of a new level of cooperation during a joint press conference with the President of Poland.
The Gaze reports on this, referring to various media sources.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Warsaw after talks with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, stated that his visit opens a new chapter in the relations between the two countries. He stressed that the independence of Ukraine and Poland is the foundation of security and freedom in Central and Eastern Europe, and that Moscow seeks to sow discord between the neighbors.
“This visit is good news for Warsaw, Kyiv, and our entire region, and bad news for Moscow, as it demonstrates that on strategic issues, security matters, Poland, Ukraine, and the democratic states of the region are together,” Nawrocki confirmed, echoing the words of the Ukrainian president.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that without Ukraine’s independence, Moscow will inevitably threaten Poland as well, making the unity of the two states critically important.
“Without the independence of our country, Moscow will inevitably come here, further into Europe. It is important that Ukraine and Poland exist, and it is important that we are together,” he said.
He invited the President of Poland to visit Ukraine, highlighting the importance of such exchanges for strengthening bilateral relations and supporting the societies of both countries.
During the talks, issues of national memory were also discussed. Polish President Karol Nawrocki noted that 26 requests from the Polish Institute of National Remembrance must be considered in accordance with the partnership relations with Ukraine. Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s respect for Poland’s historical memory and expects mutual respect for Ukraine’s history.
Both presidents agreed to continue cooperation between the national memory institutes of the two countries, ensuring proper commemoration of victims and promoting strong ties between the Ukrainian and Polish peoples.
“I believe that our meeting today will resolve this issue,” added the Polish president.
Meanwhile, Poland is preparing to transfer between six and eight MiG-29 fighter aircraft to Ukraine as the jets are phased out of service in the Polish Armed Forces by the end of the year.
At the same press conference, the President of Poland emphasized that he does not rule out the possibility of “resolving the issue” of transferring MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. He believes that exchanging these fighter jets for anti-drone systems should not contradict Poland's policy.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Polish President Karol Nawrocki has stated the need to restore balance in relations between Warsaw and Kyiv, emphasizing the desire for “symmetry” in the interests of the two countries. He noted that he wants to make cooperation with Kyiv “real,” taking into account not only the needs of Ukraine, but also the position of Polish society.
