EU Elections Start: Estonia First to Begin E-Voting, Website Suffers Outage
Estonia has allowed voting in the European Parliament elections from today, but at the beginning of the election week, the election website suffered technical errors, ERR reports.
In the morning, Estonians were able to cast their first votes in the European Parliament elections. However, the active start of voting was not without problems. Some internet browsers blocked a certain application required for voting. The Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported that 5,000 people had voted online at around 11:30 a.m.
Windows, Mac and Linux users are experiencing difficulties, as well as users of Chrome and Firefox browsers. RVK recommends using the Edge web browser if possible.
The cause of the technical problem is currently being investigated, according to the election commission. The voting itself and the verification of votes went well, they said.
In the next European Parliament, Estonia will have 7 deputies out of 720.
The official dates of the European Parliament elections are from 6 to 9 June. In most countries, polling stations will open on Sunday (9 June). But Estonia has a three-day advantage, voting is allowed from Monday - from 9 am online and from noon in person.
