EU Foreign Ministers to Hold Emergency Meeting in Response to Hamas Attack on Israel
The foreign ministers of the European Union will convene an emergency meeting in response to the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel. Diplomats from the bloc will gather on Tuesday, October 10, to discuss the EU's response to the situation in the region.
This was announced today by the EU's Chief Diplomat, Josep Borrell.
"Tomorrow I will convene an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers to discuss the situation in Israel and the region," Borrell stated on his X (Twitter) account.
Earlier, the EU's top diplomat strongly condemned the terrorist actions of Hamas and expressed solidarity with Israel.
"We are closely following the news from Israel. We strongly condemn the attacks by Hamas. This horrific violence must stop immediately. Terrorism and violence solve nothing. The EU expresses its solidarity with Israel in these difficult moments. Horrific violence must stop immediately," he stated.
The European Union and over 90 countries worldwide have unequivocally condemned the terrorist attacks by the Hamas terrorist group on Israel, which have resulted in the deaths of over 700 people and thousands injured, the majority of whom are civilians in the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose country has been under terrorist military attacks by Russia for over 18 months, stated, "There should be no place for terrorism in the world, because it is always a crime."
"This is terrorism in its most heinous form. Israel has the right to defend itself against such horrific attacks," said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
Charles Michel, President of the European Council, strongly condemned "Hamas' indiscriminate attacks on Israel and its people, causing terror and violence against innocent citizens."
"The EU stands in solidarity with the Israeli people at this dreadful moment," Michel added.
Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, also condemned Hamas' terrorism and violence against innocent people.
"My thoughts are with everyone under fire, with those who respond first, and with those who defend against these brutal attacks. Terrorism will never prevail," she noted.
Recall that Hamas caught Israel off guard early on Saturday with a rocket attack and dozens of armed terrorists who infiltrated southern Israel, shooting hundreds of people and taking several hundred hostages. In response to Hamas terrorism, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) initiated a large-scale operation to protect Israel's civilian population.
