In Ukraine, in the Kireshi tract of the Khust district in Transcarpathia, the largest Valley of Daffodils in Europe has begun to bloom. This was reported on 21 April on the Facebook page of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.
"The Narcissus Valley of the biosphere reserve has begun to bloom. The flowering of daffodils has not yet reached its peak and will continue for about 2-3 weeks," the post says.
The Narcissus Valley is a protected area located in the Kireshi tract in Khust district. Since 1992, it has been a part of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, which is part of the UNESCO International Network of Biosphere Reserves. It is a unique botanical site that protects the largest European habitat of Narcissus angustifolius. This Central European alpine species is distributed in the Alps, the Balkans and the Carpathians at altitudes of 1100-2060 m.
However, this is the only area in Europe where the narrow-leave daffodil grows in such large numbers. Thanks to its lush flowering, the Valley has become famous throughout Europe. Thousands of people come here in spring to admire the beauty.
The appearance of the Valley is connected with the Ice Age. Scientists believe that geological cataclysms occurred, and a huge piece of land slid down from the mountains along with unique plants. At that time, a lot of water flowed down from the mountains, which contributed to the flowering and reproduction of flowers.
Scientists have recorded a decrease in the area of flowers, so they make sure that travellers do not pick flowers or trample them to preserve this beauty.
