Fallen Heroes: Three Ukrainian Firefighters Killed in Line of Duty During Russian Missile Attack
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) is in mourning after a devastating Russian missile attack on Kyiv claimed the lives of three firefighters and left two press officers wounded, one critically.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the SES of Ukraine.
The fallen heroes, Pavlo Yezhor, Danylo Skadin, and Andriy Remennyi, were killed while responding to the immediate aftermath of the strike.
According to the SES, the men had just begun their regular shift when they rushed to the impact site, demonstrating the same courage and readiness that defined their service.
“Before leaving for work, they kissed and hugged their wives and children, never knowing it would be their last call,” the agency’s statement read. “They had passions, ambitions, and dreams. But the enemy had other plans.”
In addition to the fatalities, two female SES press officers were injured in the strike, one of them is in critical condition and fighting for her life in the hospital.
The incident cast a heavy shadow over Ukraine’s Journalist Day, which is commemorated on June 6.
Speaking on the occasion, SES Head Andriy Danyk paid tribute to the press officers who risked their lives to document rescue operations in real time.
“Our press officers are not just storytellers, they are witnesses. They film, write, and report from the very heart of tragedy, often while the danger is still present. Today, one of them lies in a critical condition because she chose to stand with the truth.”
As The Gaze reported earlier, the attack on Kyiv was part of a wider overnight Russian missile barrage targeting civilian infrastructure. Elsewhere in Ukraine, several regions reported injuries and damage, including Lutsk, Poltava, Ternopl, Lviv, where rescue efforts continue amid widespread destruction.
