"Friends" Actor Matthew Perry Unexpectedly Passed Away at Age 54
American-Canadian actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler in the popular TV series "Friends," has tragically passed away suddenly at the age of 54.
This heartbreaking news was reported by the Los Angeles Times. Perry was found lifeless in his Los Angeles home on Saturday, October 28th. No drugs were discovered at the scene. The police responded to a call regarding a cardiac arrest.
Sources at the scene revealed that Perry had been engaging in pickleball for two hours before sending his assistant on an errand. Upon the assistant's return, he found Perry and immediately dialled 911.
The cause of Perry's death will be determined later, as an investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement sources have indicated that it appears the actor may have drowned.
It's worth recalling that Matthew Perry had openly shared his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction over the years. He admitted to being sober only during the filming of the final 10th season of "Friends" and spent a considerable $9 million on his treatment. "I am a pretty healthy person now. I'm grateful for surviving," Perry remarked last year.
Perry was never married and did not have any children.
Warner Bros. Television Group, the studio behind "Friends," expressed their profound grief at his passing, stating, "We are devastated by the loss of our dear friend Matthew Perry. He brought so much joy to millions of people around the world with his perfect comedic talent and sense of timing. His legacy will live on for countless generations."
Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, took to social media to express his shock and sadness at the news of the actor's death. He wrote, "The death of Matthew Perry is shocking and saddening. I will never forget the games we played in the school yard, and I know people all around the world will never forget the joy he brought them. Thank you for all the laughter, Matthew. You were loved, and you will be missed." Perry had previously mentioned that he and Trudeau attended the same school.
