G7 Summit in Italy: Ukraine Anticipates Key Defence and Economic Decisions, Set to Sign Security Agreements with the US and Japan
On Thursday, 13th June, the G7 Summit kicks off in Italy. President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will participate and hold a series of meetings with leaders of the world's major powers, as he announced on Twitter.
Zelenskyy stated that he will meet with US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to sign security agreements between Ukraine and these nations. He noted that a year ago at the NATO Summit in Vilnius, the G7 adopted the Declaration of Support for Ukraine, and now, a year later, Ukraine will sign the final two security agreements with G7 states.
"The Ukrainian people and our warriors see that the G7 stands with Ukraine forever. I am grateful to our partners for their faith in us and our victory," said the Ukrainian President.
Additionally, Zelenskyy is scheduled to hold talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, European Council President Charles Michel, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
"The main topics for us are the development of a fighter jet coalition, accelerating pilot training, speeding up aircraft deliveries, building Ukraine’s air defence system based on the most powerful Western complexes, and enhancing long-range capabilities. We will also discuss the approval of the use of Russian assets for Ukraine’s benefit, particularly for developing our defence industry and joint weapons production," Zelenskyy stated.
The G7 leaders' summit will take place from 13th to 14th June in Italy, which currently chairs the Group of Seven. According to the White House, President Joe Biden's initial agenda includes discussions on unwavering support for Ukraine from all G7 members and steps to confiscate frozen Russian assets.
