Google Arts & Culture Launches "Ukraine is Near" Section – Online Access to Ukrainian Museum Treasures
Google Arts & Culture, which specialises in digitalised images of artworks, texts and digitised cultural heritage objects, now has a section called ‘Ukraine Nearby’ about Ukrainian culture.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
‘Ukraine Next Door’ contains digitised collections from more than 15 cultural institutions, including:
Skeiron;
National Art Museum of Ukraine;
Ukrainian Institute;
Ivan Honchar National Museum;
Museum of Theatre Art of Ukraine, National Museum of History of Ukraine;
Galagan Art Museum;
St. Sophia's Cathedral;
Lviv Historical Museum;
National Museum of Decorative Arts, architectural;
Balbek Bureau design studio;
Ancient Lviv Museum.
The project page also includes more than 150 stories, more than 200 digitised 3D models of cultural monuments, virtual galleries, and augmented reality artworks.
The section also includes biographies of prominent Ukrainians: writers, inventors, ballet dancers, and film directors. In particular, about the writer and poet Lesya Ukrainka, the engineer and inventor Igor Sikorsky, and the writer and politician Volodymyr Vynnychenko.
This is the first time that all this information has appeared in one place, which can be accessed from anywhere in the world for free. Thanks to this format, it will be possible to reach a large audience that will be able to explore and contemplate Ukraine's cultural heritage online.
The project was implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications, Ukraine House, digitisation company Skeiron, and museums that have posted their collections on the Ukraine Next door pages.
