Google Embeds AI Assistant into Meet, Gmail, and Office Services
The corporation Google has announced that its comprehensive office software package will be fully compatible with the AI-powered assistant, Duet AI, based on artificial intelligence. According to the developers' intentions, this integration will lead to enhanced efficiency and productivity across various work aspects, as reported by The Verge.
During the Cloud Next conference, Google introduced several new features based on artificial intelligence that will soon become available across the company's numerous corporate services. These changes will impact various Workspace applications, widely utilized in professional settings.
Among these applications, Meet, the video calling service, will see improvements in lighting and sound quality, along with the automatic generation of subtitles and real-time translation of content fragments. Additionally, Sheets and Docs will receive enhanced content detection tools. Furthermore, Google intends to introduce the Duet AI assistant into its email service, Gmail.
These AI-driven features have the potential to free individuals from the need to take meeting notes and facilitate communication both during and after calls. Microsoft and Zoom are also evidently in favor of this idea, having already launched their own AI-based meeting summary features. However, these features will only prove useful when accurately capturing the meeting's proceedings. Given that AI is prone to errors, Google will have to work diligently to earn trust in these functions. We'll witness this soon enough: the note-taking feature will be available in Google's Workspace Labs in the coming months.
Another novel Meet feature enables Duet AI to "attend" meetings on your behalf. In an invited meeting, you can press the "Attend Meeting on My Behalf" button, and Google will automatically generate text about the topics you wish to discuss. These notes will be accessible to participants during the meeting, fostering collaborative discussion.
The initial access to Duet AI is expected to be granted to corporate Workspace clients. The cost for them will be $30 per month.
Google initially unveiled Duet AI at the Google I/O 2023 conference. The company emphasizes that since its launch, thousands of enterprises and over a million trusted testers have utilized Duet AI as a powerful collaborator, capable of being a mentor, source of inspiration, and tool for productivity enhancement.
