The Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, along with members of the current cabinet, visited Kyiv today. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, as reported by the Ukrainian Cabinet's website.

The prime ministers of both countries held a joint meeting of the Romanian and Ukrainian governments, announcing cooperation in several areas and signing seven bilateral agreements.

"Romania is our economic partner, a reliable ally in countering Russian aggression, and a country with numerous historical and cultural ties. Therefore, we maintain the course towards comprehensive partnership and deepening of relations," said Denys Shmyhal.

Marcel Ciolacu referred to this joint government meeting as "historic" since it marks the first concrete step towards achieving a strategic partnership between the two nations.

"Romania will continue to provide political support to Ukraine (...) until its ultimate victory and complete territorial integrity restoration," stated the Romanian Prime Minister, emphasizing that his country would support Ukraine in the reconstruction process.

Marcel Ciolacu "strongly condemned the ongoing attacks by the Russian Federation on civilian targets in Ukraine, particularly on critical energy and port infrastructure," which he regards as war crimes.

During a joint press conference with the head of the Ukrainian government, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu expressed his gratitude to the Ukrainian side for its decision to abandon the use of the artificial Soviet term "Moldovan language."

In a joint statement by the Ukrainian and Romanian prime ministers, it was noted that the Ukrainian government has taken steps to "urgently resolve the issue of the artificial separation between the Romanian and 'Moldovan' languages through the implementation of relevant practical measures, taking into account all legal aspects."

This decision aligns with Ukraine's commitment to fulfilling criteria for European Union membership.

The term "Moldovan language" emerged during the Soviet Union era, representing a Cyrillic version of the Romanian language. In Moldova's 1994 constitution, which Ukraine followed for an extended period, Article 13 defined the "Moldovan language" as the country's national language.

Recall that earlier, Romania announced its intention to provide Ukraine with air defence systems and assist in the training of F-16 pilots.
