Hungary and Ukraine Discuss Minority Issues, Peace Formula, EU Accession
During his visit to Hungary, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto. They noted the positive dynamics in ensuring the rights of representatives of the Hungarian national community.
Sybiha said this at a press conference in Budapest, Ukrinform reports.
The Foreign Minister noted that in the morning he had visited the first bilingual Ukrainian-Hungarian school in Hungary and stressed that Ukraine reaffirms its bilateral and international commitments to ensure the rights of persons belonging to the Hungarian national community.
‘Mr Minister and I have noted the positive dynamics in resolving this issue and agreed to further cooperate in order to reach an understanding on all sensitive issues. The Hungarians of Ukraine are an integral and equal part of the Ukrainian political nation and a key bridge of understanding between our countries,’ he said.
The Minister noted that ethnic Hungarians are now defending Ukraine with arms at the front and supporting the country in the rear.
‘For us, this is the best evidence that the Hungarian national community is our strength, our ‘eros piszta’ (a famous Hungarian spicy seasoning), to use the culinary language, that today we are equal in defending our freedom and lives,’ Sybiha said.
He added that Ukraine counts on Hungary's continued support for Ukraine's integration into the European Union, both during the current EU presidency and in the future. In particular, the support for the opening of negotiating clusters in parallel.
The parties also coordinated further steps to develop border infrastructure and agreed to hold a regular meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission.
The one-on-one talks lasted about an hour, twice as long as planned. After they were completed, negotiations began in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.
On 30 September, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha is on a working visit to Hungary. He wrote on the X network that he had met with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto in Budapest.
‘We discussed in detail a wide bilateral and international agenda, and the Peace Formula as the path to a just and lasting peace. We are committed to developing pragmatic and predictable good-neighbourly relations,’ Sybiha said.
As The Gaze previously reported, on 31 August, in accordance with the agreements between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the first state bilingual secondary school and gymnasium for Ukrainian children were opened in Budapest.
