Iceland Allocates Over €2 Million to Support Production of Ukrainian Weapons by Danish Model
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiga expressed gratitude to Iceland for its contribution to the production of Ukrainian weapons based on the Danish model, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's website reports.
On 7 January, Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrín Gunnarsdóttir visited Kyiv. During the meeting, Sybiha thanked for the support and stressed the importance of the recent contribution of more than €2 million, calling on Iceland to further invest in Ukraine's defence industry.
‘We are grateful to Iceland for its recent contribution of over €2 million to the production of Ukrainian weapons based on the Danish model. We are looking forward to further increase of investments in the Ukrainian defence industry by the Icelandic side,’ Sybiha said.
In addition, the Ukrainian minister expressed gratitude for assistance in mine clearance, logistics, military training and participation in rapid procurement initiatives.
The parties also discussed Iceland's support for Ukraine's ‘peace formula’ and assistance in prosthetics for wounded soldiers.
In March 2024, Iceland has already allocated about €2 million for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine under the Czech initiative, as well as for the purchase of equipment for Ukrainian women soldiers.
In June 2024, Ukraine and Denmark signed a memorandum that establishes Denmark's purchase of weapons and equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers, making it the first country to implement such a model of cooperation.
