Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a constructive Christmas talk with representatives of US President Donald Trump’s team regarding ways to bring an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to a post made by Zelenskyy on Telegram.

According to Ukrainian president, he held a detailed and intensive conversation with Trump’s Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The parties discussed a number of important working issues and ideas that could contribute to achieving a common goal — lasting and reliable peace, security, and reconstruction.

"We are really working around the clock to bring an end to this brutal Russian war against Ukraine and to ensure that all documents and steps are realistic, effective, and reliable," he stated.

Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of coordination with partners in the US and Europe, noting that key members of Ukraine’s diplomatic and security team participated in the talks.

“We discussed some important details of the work. There are good ideas that can work for the common good and lasting peace,” the president said, hoping that these Christmas agreements and ideas will be useful.

He also reported that Defense Minister Rustem Umerov will continue contacts with the American side later the same day. Additionally, the President conveyed Christmas greetings to Donald Trump and his family, expressing hope that the current agreements will serve as another step toward peace.

This is taking place against the backdrop of intensified diplomatic efforts by the Ukrainian delegation, which has been negotiating with US and European representatives to develop a comprehensive peace plan.

On December 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a 20-point draft political agreement that includes guarantees of Ukraine’s sovereignty, security provisions, economic recovery, and other key elements for establishing lasting peace. The plan was officially submitted to the Russian side for discussion and potential approval.

However, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War note that the Kremlin shows no willingness to compromise, rejecting Ukrainian and European proposals while insisting on its own ultimatums. Russia’s demands include the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from certain regions, abandonment of NATO membership, and recognition of annexed territories, which conflict with the provisions of the peace plan.

As The Gaze reported earlier, Russia sees the document as a "fairly typical Ukrainian plan" and will insist on serious changes to the peace plan.
