In the Vatican, at the initiative of the Embassy of Ukraine to the Holy See, a service dedicated to honoring the memory of the victims of the 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine, artificially organized by the USSR, took place. The prayer was led by the State Secretary of the Holy See, Pietro Parolin, and the service took place in the church of Sant'Andrea della Valle.

This information is reported by Vatican News.

"We have gathered before the Lord's throne to pray in support of our dear Ukrainian people. Our prayers are directed, in particular, to the millions of victims of the genocide through famine that took place in this country 90 years ago, known as the Holodomor. In memory of this tragedy, we join our human and Christian sympathy to the countless number of people who lost their lives in the ruthless ongoing war that started 21 months ago," Cardinal Parolin noted.

During his sermon, the cardinal, referring to the Holodomor, pointed out the phenomenon of power that does not serve the common good "but leads to the discrimination of nations that wish to implement their own nation-building project."

Many diplomatic representatives of foreign states in the Vatican and Italy were present at the service. After the joint prayer, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Holy See, Andriy Yurash, delivered a speech.

"The modern successor of Stalin - Putin - constantly reminds that present-day Russia is the heir to the Soviet Union. That is, all the crimes of the Soviet Union are the crimes of present-day Russia," noted the Ukrainian diplomat.

Recall that on the eve, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, announced that the Declaration initiated by Ukraine to commemorate the tragic anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 had already been signed by 55 UN member states and the EU delegation.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also emphasized that Ukrainian diplomacy will continue to work on restoring historical justice and honoring the memory of all victims of the Holodomor - a tragedy artificially created by the Kremlin's totalitarian regime.

"The horrors of the Holodomor should serve as a clear reminder to current and future generations of the need to prevent such atrocities and attempts to turn food into a weapon, which is one of the key components of Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine," Minister Kuleba said.

Earlier, The Gaze reported that the U.S. state of New York issued a proclamation on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Famine in Ukraine.
