Italian Air Force Eurofighters deployed to Poland's Malbork base as part of NATO's mission have taken to the air twice in the last 24 hours. They recorded the presence of Russian aircraft over the international waters of the Baltic Sea.
This was reported by the ANSA news agency.
The signal about the detection of unknown aircraft on 28 and 29 March came from the NATO command centre in Udem, Germany. At this signal, Italian aircraft from the 4th Task Force took to the air.
According to ANSA, the fighter jets returned to base after recognising the aircraft. No incidents were reported.
Two sources said that the Russian planes were detected by radar but did not respond to radio signals or requests for communication.
As a reminder, on the night of 29 March, Russia launched another combined attack on Ukrainian territory using attack drones and missiles. The Air Force reported that 26 missiles of various types and 58 Shahed-136/131 attack drones were destroyed during the air attack. In total, Russia used 99 air strikes.
The day before, Romania launched an investigation into the crash of a combat drone on the border with Ukraine.
And the Netherlands will deploy Patriot systems in Lithuania for joint air defence.
