Legendary Metallica Shares Cover of Nothing Else Matters Performed on Bandura by Ukrainian Armed Forces Soldier
The legendary American band Metallica has posted a video on Instagram featuring a cover of the rock ballad Nothing Else Matters performed on a bandura by Taras Stolyar, Honoured Artist of Ukraine and a soldier of the 112th Territorial Defence Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a member of the unique Cultural Forces unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which consists of seven professional musicians. They not only defend the country, but also conduct charity music tours, drawing the world's attention to Ukraine's struggle.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
‘Ukrainian culture unites people and inspires them even in the most difficult times. We sincerely thank Metallica for their support, and our artists for their strength, talent and dedication,’ the ministry said in a statement.
According to the musician, ‘returning to the bandura for the first time after a long break, I had to find songs that could be performed for the guys on the front line. They had to be very concentrated, meaningful pieces. Music that would give them energy, strength, and encourage them to act.’
He stressed that the combination of bandura and Metallica is ‘exactly what we need’.
The powerful ballad Nothing Else Matters is well known and very close to every Ukrainian. It was performed by the bandura during the Cultural Troop's tour of the United States and during concerts at the frontline, Stolyar said.
