Lithuania Provides Ukraine with New Batch of Military Aid
On Wednesday, a new batch of military aid from Lithuania arrived in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence of the Baltic country reports.
According to the report, the Lithuanian Armed Forces transported and handed over the necessary field equipment and tens of thousands of dry rations to the Ukrainian military.
According to the Minister of Defence of Lithuania Arvydas Anusauskas, various field equipment is especially necessary for the troops in winter.
"We continue to do everything we can to facilitate Ukraine's difficult fight against a brutal aggressor. Each of our support packages is an additional step towards victory," he said.
As The Gaze previously reported, the Lithuanian government has also contributed €1 million to the Solidarity Trust Fund for Ukraine at the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB). The fund aims to improve the living conditions of Ukrainians and support the country's recovery efforts.
Lithuanian Finance Minister Gintare Skaiste said that the contribution to the CEB's Ukraine fund "will help restore and strengthen the country's social infrastructure".
Lithuania has joined various international initiatives in support of Ukraine through the instruments of the European Union and international financial institutions and is one of the leading countries in providing assistance to Ukraine. To date, Lithuania's humanitarian, financial and military assistance amounts to 1.9% of its GDP.
The Solidarity Fund for Ukraine, established to address the social consequences of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine and support recovery efforts, has already received €1 million in initial funding from Ireland, with additional contributions expected from the Czech Republic and Germany.
In addition to the ongoing transfer of military equipment and supplies, Lithuania is also actively training Ukrainian soldiers, providing medical treatment and rehabilitation for Ukrainians, preparing expert advice, and contributing to international funds to support Ukraine.
Lithuania has already developed a long-term plan to support Ukraine. A new military support package worth €200 million is envisaged for 2024-2026.
Last week, Lithuania handed over several million rounds of ammunition and several thousand rounds of ammunition for short-range portable anti-tank grenade launchers, as well as about a thousand folding beds.
Lithuania also repaired the first Leopard 2 battle tanks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which were damaged during the fighting.
