Lithuania to Increase Defence Spending by €130 Million
The Lithuanian government will increase defence spending by €130 million in 2024 to purchase weapons systems.
This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania.
According to the ministry, with this additional funding, Lithuania's defence spending in 2024 will amount to 3.2% of the country's GDP.
The draft resolution, signed by Finance Minister Gintare Skaiste, provides for the use of borrowed funds to accelerate the purchase of drones, anti-drone systems and other weapons by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence, as well as to upgrade existing mobile air defence systems and purchase new ones.
Skaiste noted that this funding will accelerate the development of the Lithuanian National Division and equip the country's Armed Forces with the necessary military equipment.
Lithuania will hand over a new batch of military aid to Ukraine in August. Among other things, the package includes anti-drone systems.
