Lithuania Urges U.S. to Follow EU with New Russia Sanctions

Following the European Union’s approval of its 18th sanctions package against Russia, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys has called on U.S. lawmakers to pass a corresponding bill targeting Moscow’s war economy, The Gaze reports.
In a post on X, Budrys welcomed the EU’s move and emphasized the need for U.S. action to create a coordinated transatlantic pressure campaign against the Kremlin.
“Great news — EU 18th sanctions package got a green light! With that Europe unleashes a sanctions’ strike Russia can’t ignore — targeting the heart of its war economy.”
The EU’s newly adopted measures include sanctions on over 100 vessels from Russia’s shadow fleet, 22 Russian banks, a ban on Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, and a further reduction of the oil price cap.
“With further sanctions on over 100 shadow fleet vessels, 22 Russian banks, ban on Nordstream 1 and 2 and lowering of the Oil Price Cap we ensure that Russia stays right on the course of running out of blood money.”
Budrys called the EU move a strong step forward — and now expects Washington to deliver.
“The EU paved the way. Now it’s time for perfect storm – the U.S. Senate to vote on that Russia sanctions bill imposing crushing burdens on Russian economy and those fueling Russia’s war of aggression.”
“Peace through strength,” he added.
As The Gaze previously reported, the European Union has officially adopted its 18th package of sanctions against Russia, with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas calling it “one of the most powerful ever imposed on the Russian Federation.”
